Authorities in Rangpur have imposed strict measures to improve road safety and curb the movement of illegal vehicles by restricting fuel sales.

Under the new directive, fuel will not be supplied to any motor vehicle without valid documents, including a driving licence, registration certificate, fitness certificate and helmet where applicable. All filling stations and fuel agencies have been instructed not to provide fuel to any vehicle - especially unregistered motorcycles -without proper documentation.

The directive was announced in a notification issued on Tuesday by District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan.

The notification states that, under the Road Transport Act, 2018, operating a vehicle on public roads without required documents is a punishable offence. It highlights that driving without a valid licence or registration certificate is prohibited, and no vehicle can legally operate without a valid fitness certificate.

Fuel station operators have also been directed to verify essential documents, including registration in the owner’s name, updated tax token, valid driving licence, standard helmet, fitness certificate (where applicable), and route permit before supplying fuel.

To ensure enforcement, the district and police administration have taken strict steps to maintain order at filling stations. Tag officers have been deployed at 85 fuel stations across the district, supported by police personnel.

Additionally, members of Border Guard Bangladesh have been stationed at three fuel depots to strengthen monitoring.

Law enforcement agencies have also intensified action against unregistered vehicles, particularly motorcycles, in an effort to restore discipline on the roads and prevent illegal vehicle movement.
