Bangladesh has sought support from the United States to help secure its energy supplies amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and the resulting global energy uncertainties.

In response, Washington has assured Dhaka of its cooperation in addressing the country’s energy challenges and maintaining energy security.

The assurance came during a high-level meeting held on Wednesday at the US Department of Energy in Washington, DC.

During the meeting, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman held talks with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

According to a statement issued by the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, the foreign minister outlined the difficulties Bangladesh is currently facing due to disruptions in global fuel supply chains. He emphasised the need for reliable and uninterrupted access to energy resources and requested US support in overcoming these challenges.

In response, Secretary Wright acknowledged the concerns raised by Bangladesh and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to assisting the country during this period of global instability.

The discussions also covered prospects for long-term cooperation in the energy sector. Both sides explored ways to ensure stable fuel supplies and considered expanding Bangladesh’s imports of energy products from the United States.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both countries, including Bangladesh’s ambassador to the United States and other high-ranking embassy representatives.
