Bangladesh has received 7,000 metric tonnes of diesel through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline, strengthening fuel supply as part of ongoing efforts to ensure energy security.

The latest consignment reached the Parbatipur depot in Dinajpur, marking the third shipment imported through the cross-border pipeline this month, officials confirmed.

Ahsan Habib Chowdhury, deputy manager (Operations) of Padma Oil PLC’s Parbatipur Depot, said the import reflects continued government strategy to maintain stable fuel supply through regional energy cooperation with India.

The shipment originated from Numaligarh Refinery in Assam, where pumping began on March 28. The diesel reached the Bangladesh terminal of the pipeline late on Tuesday, completing its cross-border transit.

Earlier in March, two separate consignments of 5,000 metric tonnes each were delivered on March 11 and March 23. With the latest shipment, total diesel imports through the pipeline have reached 17,000 metric tonnes in three phases during the month.

Officials said the Parbatipur depot has remained fully operational, including on Fridays, to support uninterrupted fuel distribution across the country. The newly imported diesel has already begun reaching authorised dealers since Wednesday.

Security has been reinforced at the depot during distribution, with personnel from the Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh deployed to ensure smooth operations.

Authorities said fuel distribution is proceeding under strict monitoring, with no reported disruptions.

Energy analysts note that the India-Bangladesh pipeline has become a critical infrastructure asset for Bangladesh, helping reduce transport costs, improve supply efficiency and strengthen long-term fuel security amid global market volatility.
