A fuel card system for the sale of petrol and octane has been officially launched in Sirajganj, aiming to reduce congestion at filling stations and improve access to fuel for consumers.
The initiative was inaugurated on Wednesday by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Aminul Islam at M/s Park Filling Station in the district town. The new system requires customers to present valid fuel cards in order to purchase petrol or octane.
Earlier in the day, long queues - especially of motorcycles - were seen at various filling stations. However, after authorities enforced the fuel card requirement, the number of waiting vehicles dropped significantly, making the distribution process more orderly and efficient.
Speaking at the launching programme, the DC said the government is adopting several measures to manage the ongoing global energy crisis and ensure smooth fuel supply at the local level.
He noted that around 2,000 fuel cards had already been distributed across the district on Tuesday, with the issuance process set to continue until 4 April.
Officials believe the introduction of the fuel card system will help streamline fuel sales, reduce public inconvenience, and prevent illegal hoarding. The initiative is also expected to bring greater discipline and transparency to fuel distribution in the district.
