A nationwide crackdown on fuel hoarding in Bangladesh has led to the recovery of 372,388 litres of illegally stored petroleum products, as authorities step up enforcement to stabilise supply and prevent market disruption.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division said the fuel was seized during mobile court operations conducted across the country between March 3 and April 1.

According to official data, the recovered fuel includes 271,374 litres of diesel, 30,960 litres of octane and 70,054 litres of petrol.

Officials said the enforcement drive is part of broader efforts to ensure proper fuel management and prevent artificial shortages created by illegal stockpiling.

Authorities have intensified monitoring and inspections in response to concerns over potential supply disruptions, particularly amid ongoing global energy market volatility.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division said strict action is being taken against individuals and businesses involved in fuel hoarding, with mobile courts playing a key role in enforcement.

Officials added that the operations will continue in the coming weeks to maintain normal fuel supply across the market and protect consumers from price manipulation and supply constraints.

Energy analysts say such crackdowns are critical in ensuring market stability, especially during periods of heightened uncertainty when hoarding can quickly lead to artificial shortages and price pressure.

The government has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding energy supply chains through regulatory oversight and enforcement measures aimed at preventing illegal practices.
