The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a significant increase in the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for the month of April, raising concerns among consumers already facing rising living costs.
According to the latest decision announced on Thursday, the retail price of a 12-kilogram LPG cylinder has been sharply increased to Tk1,728, up from the previous rate of Tk1,341. This marks a substantial hike, putting additional financial pressure on households that rely heavily on LPG for cooking and daily use.
In addition to household LPG, the commission has also revised the price of autogas, which is widely used as fuel for vehicles. The new autogas rate has been set at Tk79.77 per litre, reflecting an increase of Tk61.83 from the earlier price.
Officials stated that the revised prices will come into effect from Thursday evening, meaning consumers will have to pay the new rates immediately.
The latest adjustment follows global trends in energy markets, where fluctuations in fuel prices have continued to impact domestic pricing structures. LPG, being largely import-dependent, is particularly vulnerable to such international market dynamics.
With this latest hike, both household consumers and transport users are expected to feel the impact, as higher fuel costs often translate into increased expenses across multiple sectors of the economy.
