The government of Bangladesh has issued directives to the deputy commissioners (DCs) across the country to guarantee the uninterrupted supply of diesel to farmers, aiming to support agricultural activities during the current season.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Monir Hossain Chowdhury confirmed the information at a press briefing held at the Secretariat on Thursday.
He said a virtual meeting was recently held with DCs from all 64 districts, where they were instructed to take necessary steps to ensure that farmers receive diesel according to their needs.
Emphasising the availability of fuel, he noted that the country currently holds approximately 2,71,374 tonnes of diesel in stock. “There is no shortage of diesel, and farmers should not face any disruption,” he added.
The official also urged farmers to report any difficulties in accessing diesel to the local administration so that immediate action can be taken.
He further assured that supplies of petrol and octane remain stable, with fuel distribution to filling stations continuing as usual across the country.
However, he cautioned that amid global tensions, some individuals may be attempting to hoard fuel illegally. The government has already intensified monitoring and enforcement drives to prevent such activities.
Monir Hossain Chowdhury also pointed out that panic buying by consumers, driven by fears of possible price increases, has added pressure on fuel stations. Despite this, the government has decided not to raise fuel prices at this time, considering public hardship.
Authorities have also been instructed to maintain regular fuel distribution to avoid any disruption in supply.
