Bangladesh currently has a total of 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of fuel oil in stock, ensuring that the fuel supply situation across the country remains normal and stable.
Joint Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division Monir Hossain Chowdhury confirmed the information on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat, he provided a detailed breakdown of the current fuel reserves.
According to him, the total stock stands at 2,55,018 metric tonnes, with diesel comprising the largest share. A total of 1,22,660 metric tonnes of diesel is currently available, accounting for roughly 63 per cent of the total fuel inventory.
“The diesel reserves are sufficient to guarantee uninterrupted supply to the nation’s agriculture, transportation, and industrial sectors,” Monir Hossain noted, emphasising the importance of maintaining stable fuel availability for economic activities.
Other fuel stocks include 12,194 metric tonnes of petrol and 9,210 metric tonnes of octane, enough to meet the needs of private vehicles and high-performance engines. Jet fuel reserves stand at 41,876 metric tonnes, while furnace oil is at 58,736 metric tonnes. Kerosene stocks are 9,378 metric tonnes, and marine fuel totals 1,153 metric tonnes.
Monir Hossain assured that the current fuel reserves are sufficient to meet the country’s immediate and medium-term energy requirements.
He added that the government is closely monitoring fuel supply and demand to prevent shortages and ensure smooth distribution across all sectors, including industry, transport, agriculture and aviation.
