Bangladesh has received 27,300 tonnes of diesel at Chattogram Port, as authorities continue efforts to stabilise fuel supply by diversifying import sources amid ongoing Middle East tensions.

The Singapore-flagged vessel MT Yuan Jing He docked at Dolphin Jetty on Friday afternoon, according to officials of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation.

Assistant Manager Farzin Hasan Moumita confirmed the arrival, noting that the shipment forms part of ongoing fuel import operations aimed at ensuring uninterrupted supply.

The latest delivery marks the ninth fuel-carrying vessel to arrive at Chattogram Port since the start of the Middle East conflict, which has disrupted global energy supply chains.

Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said another vessel, SHAN GANG FA ZHAN, is expected to arrive with 34,000 tonnes of diesel from Malaysia.

In addition, two large ships carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) have reached the port’s outer anchorage, further strengthening fuel reserves.

Officials said Bangladesh is actively sourcing fuel from alternative markets outside the Middle East to reduce dependency on traditional suppliers and mitigate risks linked to geopolitical instability.

Authorities added that these import efforts are being coordinated alongside existing pipeline and supply mechanisms to maintain consistent fuel distribution across the country.

Energy analysts say such diversification strategies are critical for ensuring supply stability, particularly as global markets remain volatile.

The continued arrival of multiple fuel shipments reflects proactive supply management, aimed at preventing shortages and supporting energy security during a period of heightened uncertainty.
