Authorities recovered a total of 42,710 litres of fuel during nationwide drives aimed at curbing illegal hoarding and maintaining a stable supply of fuel across Bangladesh.
The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources disclosed the information in a press release issued on Sunday.
According to the statement, 333 mobile courts were deployed throughout the country over the past 24 hours to carry out the operations.
During these drives, officials seized 41,700 litres of diesel and 1,010 litres of petrol from various illegal stockpiles. In addition to the fuel recovery, the operations resulted in the filing of 107 cases against individuals found violating fuel regulations. Two people were sentenced to 14 days in prison for hoarding and related offences, reflecting the government’s commitment to strict enforcement.
The drives also generated fines totalling Tk 4,34,650, which were imposed on violators as part of the punitive measures.
Authorities emphasised that such enforcement measures are being conducted to ensure that fuel supply remains uninterrupted, prevent artificial shortages, and discourage illegal profiteering in the market.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division confirmed that similar drives will continue on a regular basis, combining legal action with public awareness campaigns to protect consumers and support the nation’s energy security.
Officials urged citizens and businesses to adhere to fuel regulations and report irregularities to the authorities, highlighting that a collaborative effort is essential for maintaining fair and stable access to diesel, petrol, and other essential energy resources.
