Chattogram Port has received four fuel-laden vessels carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and gas oil in a move to bolster Bangladesh’s energy security.

The arrivals were confirmed in a report released on Monday by the Marine Department of the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA).

The ships have transported fuel from multiple countries, including India, Malaysia, China and Nigeria, reflecting the port’s role as a critical hub in securing energy supplies for Bangladesh. Unloading operations are currently in progress to ensure a steady flow of fuel for electricity generation and industrial use.

Among the vessels, Gas Challenger arrived from India on 31 March with LPG and is stationed at Bhatiary area. Shan Gang Fa Xian, carrying gas oil from Malaysia, docked on 3 April at DOJ/6 jetty, with unloading expected to finish by 7 April. The LNG carrier Cool Voyager reached from Nigeria on 5 April and is positioned at the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), with operations scheduled to conclude by 8 April. Gas Journey, transporting LPG from China, also berthed on 5 April at the CERLIE area, with unloading set to end by 8 April.

Syed Refayet Hamim, secretary of the Chattogram Port Authority, emphasised that rapid unloading is being prioritised to maintain uninterrupted electricity generation and a stable energy supply nationwide.

He expressed confidence that all operations would be completed on time, reinforcing Bangladesh’s energy resilience.
