State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has assured that fuel supply and stock across the country remain stable, with adequate measures in place to maintain uninterrupted distribution in the coming months.
Speaking at a free eye treatment camp in Shibganj Upazila of Bogura on Monday, the state minister said the government has already secured sufficient fuel reserves to meet demand until June, easing concerns over supply disruptions.
“There is no reason for panic. Fuel supply and stock are normal, and people are getting what they need. It may take a few more days for the situation to fully stabilise,” he said.
He noted that despite rising global fuel prices, the government has refrained from increasing domestic fuel prices. Instead, it is continuing subsidies to manage the higher import costs.
According to him, the government is expected to spend around Tk36,000 crore on subsidies by June to maintain supply stability.
The state minister emphasised that the government is closely monitoring the situation to ensure that fuel remains accessible to consumers without disruption.
Referring to local development initiatives, he said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to visit Bogura on 20 April, where he may inaugurate the e-bail bond programme and distribute family cards.
Mir Shahe Alam also highlighted the importance of collaboration with private organisations for sustainable development, noting that joint initiatives are underway to establish an agricultural processing centre in the Mahasthan-Mokamtola area.
He further said there are plans to upgrade Bogura Science and Technology University into a full-fledged institution as part of broader development efforts in the region.
