Two ships carrying a combined 2 lakh metric tonnes of fuel oil have anchored at the jetty, providing a significant boost to Bangladesh’s energy supply, Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Md Nurul Islam said on Wednesday.
Speaking to journalists at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban during a break in parliamentary proceedings of the 13th session, he said the development should be given due attention alongside news reports on disruptions at Eastern Refinery PLC in Chattogram.
He noted that while media coverage has largely focused on the refinery’s temporary suspension, the arrival of large fuel consignments is a positive development that also deserves emphasis.
“The arrival of these two fuel-laden ships is an important development for the country’s energy supply situation. It should be highlighted alongside other news,” he said.
The Chief Whip added that the government has been working continuously for public welfare since assuming office, with priorities including improving livelihoods, strengthening democratic institutions, and safeguarding national independence and sovereignty.
He said efforts are also underway to ensure justice across all sectors while promoting employment opportunities through skill development.
Emphasising human resource development, he said the government is focusing on language training to improve overseas job prospects.
He mentioned Arabic for employment in the Middle East, Mandarin for China, Italian for Italy, Korean for South Korea and Japanese for Japan, alongside English as a global working language.
He further said the Education Minister would prepare a national guideline on language learning following consultations and submit it for approval.
On constitutional matters, he said discussions between the government and opposition are ongoing and differences will eventually be resolved through consensus.
He expressed optimism that the Parliament would continue to function as a platform for constructive debate, with shared national interest guiding all political parties towards agreement on key issues.
