The government of Bangladesh has expanded the pilot rollout of the QR code-based “Fuel Pass” system at filling stations in Dhaka, aiming to modernise fuel distribution and improve transparency in the petroleum supply chain.
Officials said the initiative is also designed to reduce inconvenience for motorcyclists during fuel purchases.
The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources announced the expansion on Saturday through its verified Facebook page, saying that the pilot programme has now been extended to 18 filling stations in Dhaka.
The ministry also confirmed that the system will be gradually introduced in other districts across the country in phases.
The newly included stations in Dhaka are Karim & Sons in Shyamoli; Eastern Enterprise Filling Station in Mirpur-1; Gazipur Traders in Uttara; Sattar & Company in Tejgaon Industrial Area; Rahman Filling Station in Mirpur-10; Karim & Brothers in Tejgaon; Rashid Filling Station in Mohakhali; BRB Filling Station in Tejgaon; Seba Filling Station in Badda; Hamid Filling Station in Mirpur; and Sumaiya Filling Station in Kazipara.
Earlier, from 13 April, the Fuel Pass was made mandatory for motorcyclists at seven fuel stations in the capital, including Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon, Sonar Bangla and Talukdar Filling Stations at Asad Gate, Gulshan Service Station in Mohakhali, Meghna Model Pump in Shahbagh, Nikunja Model Service Centre, and Khalek Service Station in Kalyanpur.
The Energy Division had initially launched the QR-based Fuel Pass pilot on 9 April under the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), with the objective of ensuring discipline and transparency in fuel sales.
At present, the system is being tested for motorcycle users only. Authorities said that if the pilot phase proves successful, the Fuel Pass will be gradually expanded to all types of vehicles nationwide.
