Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners Association has expressed support for the government’s recent decision to raise domestic refined fuel prices in line with global market movements, saying the adjustment could help curb artificial supply disruptions and improve overall market stability.
In a statement issued by the association’s Member Secretary Mir Ahsan Uddin Parvez, shortly after the price revision was announced, the organisation said the move was a “timely and pragmatic step” in response to international fuel price trends.
According to the statement, the revised pricing is expected to discourage stockpiling and hoarding practices allegedly carried out by certain groups in the fuel distribution chain. Such practices, the association claimed, have at times contributed to perceived shortages and instability in the local market.
Mir Ahsan Uddin Parvez said the new pricing structure would help bring greater transparency to the refined fuel supply system.
He added that aligning domestic prices with global trends would strengthen the distribution network and ensure smoother availability of petroleum products across the country.
The association also believes that the decision could improve trust between fuel traders and consumers, which they described as essential for maintaining a stable and efficient energy market.
At the same time, the organisation urged the government to continue adopting “realistic and timely” policy measures in the energy sector. It stressed that consistent reforms and market-responsive decisions would be necessary to ensure long-term stability in fuel supply and pricing, especially amid ongoing fluctuations in the global oil market.
The statement concluded with a call for sustained cooperation between authorities and stakeholders to prevent artificial crises and ensure uninterrupted fuel distribution nationwide.
