Fuel supply management measures and improved distribution have started easing pressure at filling stations across Bangladesh, with operators reporting a noticeable decline in long vehicle queues.

Petrol pump owners said the combination of increased fuel allocation and the introduction of a digital fuel pass system for motorcyclists has helped streamline distribution and reduce congestion. The earlier situation, marked by hours-long waits and overcrowding, has improved significantly in recent days.

Operators described the previous weeks as highly stressful, with heavy rushes for petrol and octane often leading to disorder and delays. However, they noted that the situation has stabilised as supply has been raised and monitoring tightened.

Motorcyclists also reported a major improvement in waiting times. Many who previously spent several hours in queues said they are now able to receive fuel within a much shorter period.

Motorcyclists, who formed a large share of the queue pressure, said the new QR-based fuel pass system has made the process faster and more organised.

Officials from the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) said supply levels have been increased nationwide, with instructions to raise distribution of diesel and petrol by 10 per cent and octane by 20 per cent from 20 April.

They added that further increases are planned to ensure smooth availability at filling stations.

The Energy Division has also introduced a mobile application-based fuel pass system to regulate motorcycle fuel collection, which has already shown positive results in major urban areas. In addition, enforcement drives are ongoing to prevent hoarding and ensure fair distribution.

Authorities say these combined measures are helping restore normalcy at fuel stations and reducing the risk of artificial shortages.
