Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has told Parliament that the fuel rationing system is no longer applicable to police and other emergency services, following a recent government decision to withdraw the restriction.

Responding during Sunday’s parliamentary session, the Prime Minister said the embargo on essential services, including police units, ambulances and fire service operations, had already been lifted.

“This restriction has already been removed. The decision was taken two days ago,” he said, adding that emergency agencies would no longer face fuel-related limitations.

The issue was raised by BNP lawmaker Manirul Haque Chowdhury (Cumilla-6), who expressed concern that fuel rationing was affecting law enforcement operations.

He cited reports that police patrols were being disrupted due to fuel shortages, warning that continued restrictions could weaken law and order and affect public safety.

He also urged the government to immediately withdraw the rationing system for emergency services.

The Prime Minister, who also serves as the Leader of the House, said the government had already addressed the concern and taken necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted operations.

He expressed hope that the decision would resolve operational difficulties faced by law enforcement and emergency response agencies, ensuring smoother public service delivery going forward.
