Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced a series of welfare-oriented initiatives, including the introduction of LPG gas cards for women and free education for girls up to degree level, as part of the government’s broader social support agenda.
He made the announcement while addressing a public gathering in Sharsha Upazila of Jashore on Monday, following the inauguration of the Ulshi Canal re-excavation programme.
Highlighting ongoing challenges in gas supply, the Prime Minister said the proposed LPG card system would help reduce the burden on households, particularly for women managing daily cooking needs.
He emphasised that the government remains committed to delivering on its promises and ensuring that public welfare remains at the centre of policy decisions.
“Our aim is to design every programme in a way that directly benefits the people,” he said, adding that continued public support would enable the government to fully implement its commitments.
In a significant move to promote women’s empowerment, the premier also announced that female students would be provided free education up to degree level. He described the initiative as a step towards strengthening human resources and expanding opportunities for girl’s education across the country.
The Prime Minister also raised concerns about the political landscape, alleging that certain groups are attempting to divert the public mandate expressed through the recent referendum. According to him, efforts to misuse the so-called “July Charter” for political gain could undermine ongoing development and welfare initiatives.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and safeguard the interests of the country, warning that any deviation from the public mandate could disrupt progress.
The Ulshi Canal project, inaugurated at the event, is expected to improve water management and benefit local agriculture, reflecting the government’s focus on infrastructure alongside social development.
