Bangladesh’s efforts to strengthen its energy security and attract foreign investment in the energy sector were highlighted as a delegation from Chevron Corporation met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, focused on ongoing and potential cooperation in the country’s energy sector, particularly in oil and gas exploration and production.
The Chevron delegation included Javier La Rosa, president of Base Assets and Emerging Countries, and Eric M Walker, along with other senior officials.
Discussions are understood to have centred on enhancing collaboration to support Bangladesh’s growing energy demand and ensure a stable supply of fuel for industrial and economic development. As one of the leading international energy companies operating in Bangladesh, Chevron plays a key role in the country’s natural gas production.
Senior government officials, including Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku, Prime Minister’s Adviser for Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, and State Minister Aninda Islam Amit, were present at the meeting.
The engagement reflects Bangladesh’s continued focus on strengthening partnerships with global energy companies to diversify energy sources, improve efficiency, and sustain long-term growth in the power and energy sector.
