Fuel prices in Bangladesh will remain unchanged for May, as the government maintains existing rates despite ongoing volatility in global energy markets.

According to an order issued by the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, the current pricing structure—set on 18 April—will continue to apply throughout the month. The directive was communicated to the Chairman of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation following approval from the relevant authorities.

Under the existing rates, diesel is priced at Tk 115 per litre, octane at Tk 140, petrol at Tk 135, and kerosene at Tk 130. These prices will remain effective from 1 May without any adjustment at the consumer level.

The decision reflects a policy approach aimed at maintaining price stability in the domestic fuel market, particularly as international oil prices remain volatile due to supply disruptions and geopolitical tensions affecting key trade routes.

Bangladesh relies heavily on imported refined fuel and crude oil, making domestic pricing sensitive to fluctuations in global markets, including developments in the Middle East and shipping through strategic corridors such as the Strait of Hormuz.

By holding prices steady, authorities appear to be balancing inflation control and energy affordability, while managing fiscal pressures linked to fuel subsidies and import costs.

Officials did not indicate whether further adjustments would be made in the coming months, noting that future pricing decisions will depend on global oil trends, supply conditions and domestic demand patterns.
