The special parliamentary committee on energy under the 13th National Parliament held its first meeting on Sunday at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, marking the beginning of its formal activities.

Formed to assess Bangladesh’s current energy situation and provide policy recommendations, the committee reviewed key developments in the sector during its inaugural session.

According to a statement from the Parliament Secretariat, members expressed satisfaction over the initiatives taken by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources to address ongoing challenges.

The meeting was chaired by head of the committee and Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku.

Several Members of Parliament attended the session, including State Minister for Energy Anindya Islam Amit, Whips ABM Ashraf Uddin and Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, as well as lawmakers Moinul Islam Khan, Md Nurul Islam, Md Abdul Baten, Hasnat Abdullah and Mohammad Abul Hasan.

During the meeting, officials from the ministry presented an overview of the current energy landscape, outlining supply conditions and ongoing measures.

The committee also decided to continue its discussions in subsequent meetings, where it will formulate detailed recommendations before submitting a final report to Parliament.
