Fuel pass mandatory at 68 Dhaka filling stations

The Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources has significantly expanded the mandatory use of the ‘Fuel Pass’ mobile application for fuel distribution in the capital. According to an official announcement made on Monday, the requirement now covers 68 filling stations across the Dhaka Metropolitan area, specifically targeting motorcyclists. This expansion incorporates and builds upon the initial 11 stations where the digital system was first trialled late last month.

The directive aims to digitise fuel consumption monitoring and streamline the distribution process at major hubs. While the mandate applies broadly to motorcycles across all listed locations, the Ministry has specified a stricter protocol for private cars. Specifically, for the first 18 stations on the government’s list—which include prominent sites such as Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon and Sonar Bangla Service Station in Asadgate—the use of the Fuel Pass app is also compulsory for private car owners seeking fuel.

This digital shift follows an initial rollout on 27 April, where the ministry first introduced the requirement for motorcyclists at select locations. Under the new regulations, fuel station operators are prohibited from dispensing oil to vehicles that do not verify their transaction through the app. The list of 68 stations spans nearly every major neighbourhood in the city, including Uttara, Mirpur, Gulshan, Dhanmondi, and Motijheel, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the capital’s primary transit corridors.

Authorities have urged commuters to download and register on the platform to avoid service disruptions. The move is viewed as a strategic step by the ministry to enhance accountability in energy consumption and modernise the retail fuel infrastructure in Bangladesh.
