The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a reduction in jet fuel prices, lowering the cost of Jet A-1 by Tk21.63 per litre for domestic carriers and by $0.1421 per litre for international airlines.
Under the new pricing structure, the domestic rate has been revised to Tk205.45 per litre, down from Tk227.08. For foreign airlines, the revised price now stands at $1.3385 per litre, compared to the previous $1.4806.
The updated rates will take effect from midnight leading into 8 May, according to a BERC circular issued on Thursday.
BERC introduced a structured pricing mechanism for jet fuel in May 2025, linking domestic rates to international market movements. The regulator said prices will now be reviewed monthly in line with global trends, particularly benchmark Platts data.
An official noted that earlier pricing decisions were taken by Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), but the responsibility has now been shifted to the regulatory commission to ensure greater transparency and market alignment.
The latest adjustment is based on average Platts rates recorded between 5 April and 4 May.
BERC also confirmed that a public hearing was held on Thursday under Sections 22(Kha) and 34 of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act, 2003, before finalising the revised rates.
