A vessel carrying a large shipment of crude oil is on its way to Bangladesh and is expected to arrive at the Chattogram Port in the coming days, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The tanker, named MT Fossil, departed from Fujairah Port in the United Arab Emirates on Monday evening (Bangladesh time). The ship is transporting 1 lakh tonnes of crude oil as part of Bangladesh’s ongoing energy import arrangements.
Officials from the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) said the vessel is scheduled to reach Chattogram Port on 23 May, subject to normal sailing conditions and logistical clearance.
BSC Managing Director Commodore Mahmudul Malek confirmed the expected arrival timeline and said preparations are underway to handle the unloading process once the ship docks.
This latest shipment follows another recent crude oil import. On 6 May, the tanker MT Ninemia arrived at the Qutubdia Channel carrying 1 lakh tonnes of crude oil from Yanbu Port in Saudi Arabia.
Energy officials say such regular shipments are part of efforts to ensure stable fuel supply and maintain uninterrupted refinery operations in the country.
The arrival of successive large-scale crude cargoes highlights Bangladesh’s continued dependence on imported energy resources and its efforts to secure consistent supply chains through multiple international sources, including the Middle East.
Authorities at Chattogram Port are expected to coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure smooth offloading and distribution once the vessel reaches Bangladeshi waters.
