The government has decided to keep all CNG refuelling stations across Bangladesh open 24 hours a day for 13 consecutive days to ease passenger movement during Eid-ul-Azha.
According to an official directive issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the special arrangement will remain effective from 21 May to 2 June. The decision was taken to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply and reduce travel disruptions during the Eid rush.
A letter regarding the matter was recently sent to the chairman of Petrobangla, instructing authorities concerned to implement the round-the-clock operation across the country.
Under the directive, CNG refuelling stations will continue operating without interruption for seven days before Eid and five days after the festival. Officials believe the move will help manage the increased pressure on highways and transport services as millions of people travel to their hometowns to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha.
The government has already announced a seven-day Eid holiday this year. Government and semi-government offices are scheduled to remain closed from 25 May to 1 June.
Besides public offices, garment factories are also expected to grant holidays in phases to facilitate workers’ travel and avoid excessive congestion on roads and highways.
Authorities concerned said the uninterrupted operation of filling stations is aimed at ensuring smoother transportation services during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. The initiative is also expected to help public transport operators, private vehicle owners and long-distance travellers avoid fuel shortages during the extended holiday period.
Officials added that monitoring measures would remain in place to ensure adequate fuel supply and uninterrupted services throughout the Eid season.
