Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever electricity generation on Wednesday night, as national power production climbed to 17,200 megawatts at around 9:00pm, according to Power Grid Bangladesh PLC.

The latest output surpassed the country’s previous record of 16,794MW, which was achieved on 23 July 2025, marking a new milestone in Bangladesh’s power sector.

In a notification issued after the achievement, the state-owned power transmission company said the record amount of electricity was successfully transmitted across the country without any major disruption in the national grid system.

Officials said the uninterrupted transmission reflected improved coordination among power generation companies, transmission authorities and electricity distribution agencies operating nationwide.

Power Grid Bangladesh PLC credited the achievement to the combined efforts of all stakeholders involved in electricity production and supply management.

The increase in power generation comes at a time when electricity demand has been rising across the country due to higher temperatures, growing industrial activities and expanding urban consumption.

Sector insiders said maintaining stable transmission despite the record generation demonstrated enhanced grid management capacity and operational efficiency within the country’s power sector.

Bangladesh has continued to expand its electricity generation capacity over the past decade through a combination of public and private sector investments in conventional and renewable energy projects.

Officials expressed optimism that further upgrades in generation and transmission infrastructure would help ensure stable power supply and support the country’s growing economic activities in the coming years.
