The government has undertaken a series of special initiatives to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across Bangladesh during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
The matter was confirmed on Tuesday by officials from the Power Division.
Authorities said round-the-clock monitoring of the country’s power generation, transmission and distribution systems has already been put in place to prevent disruptions during the holiday period, when residential electricity consumption typically increases.
Power Division Secretary Mirana Mahrukh said all relevant agencies and distribution companies have been instructed to remain fully prepared to maintain stable electricity services throughout Eid. She added that the ministry is closely supervising the overall power situation nationwide.
Officials concerned said adequate electricity generation capacity has been kept ready to meet the anticipated demand, which is expected to range between 12,000 and 13,000 megawatts during Eid.
Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Member (Generation) Md Johurul Islam said some power plants are currently undergoing scheduled maintenance, while fuel-based plants will continue operating to support the national grid during peak demand hours.
He said online coordination meetings are being held regularly with power distribution companies, while engineers and technical teams have been deployed in four BPDB operational zones to respond quickly to any emergencies caused by storms, technical faults or supply disruptions.
According to BPDB officials, electricity management usually becomes comparatively easier during Eid holidays because industrial and commercial power consumption declines significantly, allowing more stable supply to residential areas.
Authorities said vulnerable transmission lines, substations and key infrastructure facilities have already undergone inspection and maintenance ahead of the holidays.
Special control rooms will remain operational before, during and after Eid, with engineers, linemen and emergency response teams on standby around the clock.
Distribution agencies, including Bangladesh Power Development Board, Dhaka Power Distribution Company, Dhaka Electric Supply Company, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board and Northern Electricity Supply Company, have also formed special monitoring teams to oversee uninterrupted supply during the festive period.
The Power Division also urged consumers to avoid unnecessary electricity usage and advised prepaid meter users to recharge their accounts in advance to avoid inconvenience during Eid holidays.
