The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is set to formally announce the rescheduling of wholesale, transmission and retail electricity prices at 3pm on Wednesday.
The announcement was confirmed in a statement issued by BERC on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has submitted proposals to the commission seeking revisions to multiple components of the electricity pricing structure. These include changes to the wholesale or bulk power tariff as well as retail electricity rates for consumers.
In addition, proposals have also been submitted regarding revised transmission charges for Power Grid Bangladesh PLC. Several major distribution entities have also sought adjustments to their retail tariffs. These include Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC), Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO), West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL) and Northern Electricity Supply PLC (NESCO).
BERC is expected to review these proposals and officially announce the revised tariff structure in the scheduled press briefing on Wednesday afternoon.
The upcoming announcement is likely to affect all segments of electricity pricing, including generation, transmission, and distribution levels. However, the commission has not yet disclosed the extent or direction of the changes.
Energy sector stakeholders and consumers are closely watching the decision, as electricity pricing adjustments often have a direct impact on industrial costs, household expenses, and overall inflation trends in the country.
The BERC statement confirmed that all relevant updates regarding the new tariff structure will be made public at the official announcement time.
