The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Sunday lowers the Jet A-1 (jet fuel) price for domestic and international airlines by Taka 15.67 and $0.10 per litre, respectively.
According to the regulatory commission circular issued on Sunday, the price of Jet A-1 fuel was reduced by Taka 15.67 per litre, bringing it down to Taka 150.21 from Taka 165.88 for domestic carriers.
Secretary of BERC Md Nazrul Islam Sarkar said that for international airlines it has decreased by $0.1015 per litre, bringing it down to $0.9808 from US$1.0823 for airlines.
“The new pricing would come into effect from 12 midnight on 7 June 2026," he said.
“The regulatory agency said to consider the Platts Rate from 22 May to 4 June, 2026 on average,” the commission circular said.
For airlines, fuel is typically the largest operating expense, accounting for up to 40% of total costs. The reduction is expected to ease financial pressure on domestic operators, improve route profitability and support the aviation sector’s continued recovery.
The decision also highlights Bangladesh’s gradual shift toward a market-linked energy pricing system.
By aligning domestic fuel rates more closely with international benchmarks, regulators aim to improve transparency and reduce distortions.
However, the approach also leaves consumers and businesses more exposed to fluctuations in global oil markets.
The BERC held a public hearing today under Sections 34 (4) and 34 (6) of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act, 2003, regarding the proposal from Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and Padma Oil Company Limited (POCL).
Considering the detailed price according to the Platts Rate of Jet A-1 from 22 May 2026 to 4 June 2026, as well as the US dollar exchange rate in Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation’s (BPC) Letter of Credit (LC) settlement, the BERC adjusted the price for June.
