The Power Division has instructed electricity distribution utilities and companies across Bangladesh to investigate complaints about unusually high electricity bills issued for June, following concerns raised by consumers.

In a statement released on Monday, the division said it had received reports from a range of sources indicating that many customers had been charged significantly more for electricity in June compared with previous months.

To minimise inconvenience for consumers, the Power Division has directed all electricity distribution organisations and companies to carefully examine cases where bills appear unusually high and take corrective action where necessary.

The authorities have also urged customers who believe their electricity bill is inaccurate to contact their respective electricity distribution company or utility.

Consumers may also submit complaints through the customer service helplines that have already been introduced by the distribution agencies.

The Power Division said it would oversee the handling of complaints through the relevant electricity distribution organisations to ensure that reported cases are properly reviewed and resolved.

The move comes as consumers across the country have voiced concerns over higher-than-expected electricity bills for June, prompting the government to seek a detailed review of the issue.
