The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the consumer price of furnace oil to Tk 109.10 per litre, down from Tk 113.54, with the new rate set to take effect from 1 July.
The regulator announced the decision in a statement on Tuesday, saying the adjustment follows a review of international fuel prices and recent movements in the exchange rate.
According to BERC, the revised price was approved under the provisions of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act, 2003, after examining proposals submitted by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and the country’s state-owned oil marketing companies.
The commission stated, "It had previously issued an order on 22 February 2026 setting the consumer price of furnace oil supplied by BPC. That order also covered storage and supply charges, marketing costs for oil distribution companies and integrated transportation expenses.”
To support regular adjustments in fuel prices, BERC established a review committee on 15 March this year.
The committee assessed the import prices of refined furnace oil between 13 May and 29 June, alongside free-on-board (FOB) crude oil prices during May and June.
It also considered changes in the value of the US dollar against the Bangladeshi taka before recommending the latest price revision.
BERC said again, "The updated pricing order has been published on its official website.”
The latest reduction reflects the regulator’s pricing mechanism, which takes into account trends in the international energy market and exchange rate fluctuations when determining domestic fuel prices.
It is expected to lower fuel costs for industries and sectors that rely heavily on furnace oil, while aligning local prices more closely with global market conditions.
