The Power Division has opened a dedicated flood control room to help ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and strengthen coordination among power utilities as flooding continues to affect parts of Bangladesh.

According to an office order, the control room has been established on the 14th floor of Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka. It will operate daily from 9:00am to 9:00pm, with designated officials remaining available by mobile phone outside these hours if required to respond to emergencies.

The move is aimed at maintaining the stability of the electricity network during the floods by monitoring the overall power situation, coordinating closely with electricity distribution companies and responding swiftly to any supply disruptions. The Power Division has assigned officials on a roster basis to oversee operations from 13 July to 31 July.

Officials on duty have been instructed to immediately coordinate with the relevant distribution companies whenever electricity supply problems are reported and ensure prompt restoration of services. They have also been authorised to notify higher authorities if the situation requires further intervention.

The office order states that any official unable to perform an assigned duty must arrange a replacement and ensure the substitute is fully briefed before taking over responsibilities, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring throughout the deployment period.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has established its own control room to maintain round-the-clock coordination with the Power Division and ensure uninterrupted electricity services for consumers during the floods.

The BPDB has appointed focal point officers for its central monitoring cell and the Chattogram distribution zone to maintain continuous communication with the Power Division's control room and oversee field-level operations in affected areas.

The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has also designated focal point officials to coordinate emergency response efforts and support uninterrupted electricity services across rural areas impacted by the flooding, reinforcing the government's efforts to maintain reliable power supply during the disaster.
