Actress Shomi Kaiser has been granted bail in the case of an attack on students during the anti-discrimination movement. A double bench of the High Court granted her bail on Monday.
Earlier, on April 9 this year, the CMM Court in Dhaka ordered her to arrest Zubair Hasan Yusuf, an honors student of Tongi Government College, in an attempt to murder case.
According to the case details, Zubair Hasan Yusuf (20), a first-year honors student of Tongi Government College, participated in the procession during the anti-discrimination movement on August 4. On that day, at 12:50 pm, Zubair was hit in the left shoulder by bullets fired by the accused during the procession in the Azampur area of Uttara Purba Police Station, and he fell to the ground. Later, he recovered after receiving treatment at the hospital.
Then on August 22, Zubair filed a case with Uttara East Police Station against 11 people and 150 to 200 unknown accused, in which actress Shomi Kaiser is a suspect.
On December 8, Shomi Kaiser applied for bail in the High Court in that case. After the hearing, she was granted three-month bail. However, on December 12, the Chamber Judge Court headed by Justice Md. Rezaul Haque of the Appellate Division suspended the bail.
The actress was arrested from house number 53, Road number 6, Sector 4, Uttara on the night of November 5. The next day, on November 6, she was shown arrested and remanded in the Ishtiaq Mahmud assassination attempt case.
The father of famous actress Shomi Kaiser of the 90s is Shahidullah Kaiser and mother is Panna Kaiser. Her mother Panna is a writer and former member of parliament. She is the sister of Maya Panna, the wife of former President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
