Bangladesh Television’s iconic children’s talent programme, Notun Kuri, is set for a grand revival, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman scheduled to inaugurate the reimagined edition on 30 April.

The announcement came from Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, adviser to the Prime Minister on Cultural Affairs, during a press briefing at the PID conference room on Tuesday.

Dr Zahed, who also serves as the Prime Minister’s adviser on Policy and Strategy and Information and Broadcasting, said the relaunched competition will now combine its traditional focus on cultural performances with sports activities, creating a more holistic platform for young talent.

Dr Zahed further revealed that the government plans to roll out a nationwide book reading competition in the near future to encourage students to develop regular reading habits.

Referring to the programme’s legacy, he noted that Notun Kuri was first introduced under the BNP government led by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and traditionally celebrated children’s artistic talents across the country.

“This new edition broadens the scope of the competition to include sports, and we are exploring similar initiatives in other fields to engage children in meaningful and skill-building activities,” Dr Zahed added.

He emphasised the government’s goal of fostering creativity, discipline, and healthy competition among the youth, noting that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will officially inaugurate the revamped programme on April 30.

The revival of Notun Kuri reflects the government’s commitment to promoting talent development and extracurricular engagement for children and adolescents across Bangladesh.
