Legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle, widely regarded as one of the most versatile and influential voices in modern Indian music, passed away on Sunday at the age of 92.

She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday after suffering from cardiac and respiratory complications.

According to sources, the veteran singer had been unwell for several months and was taken to the hospital in a critical condition. She was later shifted to the intensive care unit the same night.

Her son, Anand, confirmed her death on Sunday afternoon, adding that her last rites will be held on Monday.

Born in 1933 into the renowned Mangeshkar family, Asha Bhosle began her musical journey at a very young age, starting professional singing at just nine years old. She recorded her first film song in 1943 and gradually rose to prominence during the 1950s, eventually becoming one of the most sought-after playback singers in the Indian film industry.

Over a career spanning several decades, she worked with leading composers and delivered countless memorable songs across genres. Though initially associated with cabaret-style numbers, she later showcased remarkable versatility by excelling in classical-based compositions and ghazals, including her acclaimed work in films like Umrao Jaan.

Asha Bhosle received numerous accolades, including seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer and two National Film Awards. Her legacy in Indian music stands alongside that of her elder sister, Lata Mangeshkar, marking an era that shaped the golden age of Hindi cinema music.
