Kaarina Kaisar, a prominent Bangladeshi digital content creator and actress, has passed away while receiving specialised medical care in Chennai, India. She was 32 years old.
The actress succumbed to severe liver-related complications in the early hours of Saturday, following a sudden and sharp decline in her health over the past week.
Kaarina, who built a substantial public following through her engaging social media presence and various acting endeavours, belonged to one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated sporting families. She was the daughter of the former national football team captain Kaisar Hamid and the granddaughter of the pioneering chess grandmaster Rani Hamid.
The news of her passing was confirmed by her father, Kaisar Hamid, in an emotional public statement released shortly after her death.
“It is with profound sorrow that I announce the departure of my beloved daughter, Kaarina Kaisar, who passed away a short while ago during her treatment in Chennai,” Hamid shared. “If she ever inadvertently wronged or troubled anyone during her life, I earnestly request your forgiveness. I am deeply grateful to everyone who stood by us, offered prayers, and extended their support during this challenging period. Please join us in praying that Almighty Allah grants her eternal peace in paradise.”
The medical emergency began on May 8, when Kaarina suffered acute liver failure, necessitating her immediate admission to an intensive care facility where she was placed on life support. Hospital sources later confirmed that an underlying infection had escalated, leading to a diagnosis of Hepatitis A.
As her condition worsened, she was transferred from Dhaka to Chennai via a dedicated air ambulance on Monday night to access advanced corporate medical interventions. She was accompanied by her mother, Lopa Kaisar, while her two brothers, Mustafa S Hamid and Sadat Hamid, also travelled to India as prospective donors for an emergency liver transplant. Despite the rapid mobilisation of medical logistics and family support, clinical interventions ultimately proved unsuccessful.
The family has confirmed that Kaarina Kaisar’s body is scheduled to arrive back in Dhaka on Sunday. Further details regarding her funeral arrangements and burial services are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
