The teaser for the new short series 'ANNiE', directed by the renowned Abdullah Mohammad Saad, provides a chilling look at a society that is gradually collapsing against the backdrop of another epidemic, dread, and uncertainty.

The teaser uses the director's trademark blue-toned visual style, which is evocative of his well-known movie "Rehana Maryam Noor", to convey a general feeling of suffering, loneliness, and discomfort.

Since ANNiE is Bangladesh's first series selected for the esteemed international television festival's 'Women in Series' area, it has already garnered significant attention.

Nazifa Tushi in and as Annie

The miniseries' debut trailer and poster were released yesterday, giving viewers a first look at the bleak, eerie, and mysterious world of Nazifa Tushi's character Annie.

The international premiere of the series is scheduled for Tuesday at Theatre 3 of the Cinenova location in Cologne, Germany. The trailer has been made available to viewers worldwide ahead of the launch.

In the title character, Nazifa Tushi plays Annie, a young nurse who is fighting for her life while taking care of her five siblings. But after a terrible incident, her life drastically changes. Annie finds herself plunging into a darkness from which retaliation seems to be the only way out as she struggles with the hatred that has grown inside her and in the world around her.

According to a press release from the production team, ‘ANNiE’ has been crafted in the style of a chamber drama.

Much like filmmaker Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s previous works, the series explores themes of inequality, mistrust and social violence embedded within relationships between men and women. By intertwining personal trauma with wider societal crises, the creators believe the series will resonate strongly with international audiences.

Alongside Nazifa Tushi, the cast features Yash Rohan, Symon Sadik, Sarika Subrin, Farhana Mithu, Nazah and several others. Although members of the cast and crew had planned to attend the world premiere, the producers revealed that visa complications prevented them from travelling, even after they had completed all necessary preparations.

Describing the series, the festival organisers stated, “This series from Bangladesh turns a ‘what if’ scenario into a gripping dramatic thriller.”
