The remains of popular film star Salman Shah are set to be exhumed from his grave as part of a renewed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, officials have said.
The process will be followed by an inquest report and an autopsy aimed at determining the exact cause of death.
Investigating officer and CID Inspector Ziaul Morshed said he had sought court permission to exhume the remains of Salman Shah, whose real name was Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon. He also requested approval to prepare an inquest report and conduct an autopsy in the presence of an executive magistrate.
He said the court had granted the petition. “There are some procedural formalities to be completed. Once those are done, we will exhume the body, prepare the inquest report and conduct the autopsy,” he said.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana recently issued the order allowing the exhumation and associated procedures.
The development comes after Salman Shah’s maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, filed a case on 21 October 2025 at Ramna Police Station against 11 people, including the actor’s wife, Samira Haque, under Sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.
The other accused include Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Samira Haque’s mother Latifa Haque Lusi, and individuals identified as Dawn, David, Zaved, Faruk, Ruby, Sattar, Saju and Rijvi Ahmed Farhad.
On 20 October 2025, Dhaka’s Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque ordered police to treat the case as a murder investigation and submit a report. The court also noted that an earlier unnatural death case had been cancelled on 31 October 2021.
The latest court order marks a significant escalation in a long-running case that continues to draw public attention years after the actor’s death.
