Actor Shiba Shanu has been elected president of the Bangladesh Film Actors’ Association (Chalachitro Shilpi Samiti) for the 2026-2028 term, while actor Joy Chowdhury has been chosen as the organisation’s new general secretary.
The Election Commissioner announced the official results at around 4:45am on Saturday, bringing the closely watched election to a conclusion.
Shiba Shanu secured 243 votes to win the presidency, defeating fight director and actor Arman, who received 173 votes.
In the race for general secretary, Joy Chowdhury won with 237 votes. His nearest challenger, actress Rumana Islam Mukti, polled 179 votes.
The Bangladesh Film Actors’ Association represents performers working in the country’s film industry and plays an important role in safeguarding members’ interests, promoting professional standards and addressing issues affecting the sector.
The newly elected committee will serve for the 2026-2028 term and is expected to oversee the association’s activities and represent the interests of its members during its tenure.
