10 injured in Shailkupa over rent demands

At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two parties over asking for van fare in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah.

The incident took place at 11 am on Sunday in Dhaora village of the upazila.

According to local sources, a fight broke out between van drivers Arab Ali and Rabiul Islam of Dhaora village over asking for fare from two passengers at Langalbandh Bazar of the upazila on Saturday afternoon. They are supporters of Ayub Mandal and Swapan Mandal's social group from Dhaora village.

Tension had been brewing in Dhaora village since Sunday morning over the incident. At one point, people from both sides got involved in a clash with country-made weapons. At least 10 people were injured in the incident. Police reached the spot after receiving information and brought the situation under control. The injured were rescued and admitted to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex. Three of them have been sent to Faridpur Medical College for advanced treatment.

Shailkupa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masum Khan said, "The fight took place over a trivial incident. We have not received any written complaint about the incident so far. Legal action will be taken if any complaint is received."
