Five Awami League leaders and activists were arrested by detectives during a midnight operation, while members of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, including former MP Omar Faruk Sumon of the Naogaon-6 seat, were barred from several locations across the capital.
Other arrestees include Amzad Hossain Rajon, 44, vice-president of Motijheel T&T Colony unit Jubo League; Sazzad Hossain, 57, religious affairs secretary of Awami League; Tanvir Islam, 30, vice-president of Mirpur Model Police Station Chhatra League; and Abu Naim Juber, 22, former vice-president of Dhaka Metropolitan North unit Chhatra League.
Tipped off, a team of BD police conducted a drive-in different parts of the capital and arrested them, said deputy commissioner (media) of DMP, Talebur Rahman, on Thursday.
Among the arrestees, Naim was arrested from Malibagh area, Tanvir from Mirpur Model area, Sazzad from Uttara Kawla area, Rajon from Motijheel area and Omar Faruk from Lalbagh area of the capital.
