A court in Dhaka has ordered the seizure of income tax files of former Member of Parliament (MP) from the Narayanganj-4 constituency, Shamim Osman, on Monday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order in response to a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the application, a case has been filed against Shamim Osman on allegations that during his tenure as a Member of Parliament, he abused his power and amassed assets worth Tk 6.67 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income. He is also accused of holding these assets in his possession.

Furthermore, he is alleged to have conducted abnormal and suspicious financial transactions amounting to Tk 439.82 crore through nine bank accounts in his name and linked to his interests. These funds are suspected to be proceeds of corruption, and the transactions involve deliberate transfers, relocations, and conversions of illicit wealth.

For the sake of a fair investigation, it is deemed essential to seize and review his income tax records from fiscal years 2009–10 to 2023–24.
