Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain has urged for further cooperation between Bangladesh and Turkey in trade, investment, and defense, confirming Dhaka's commitment to deepening the two countries' historic alliance.
The Adviser made the remarks when a five-member Turkish parliamentary delegation, led by Mehmet Akif Yilmaz, Chairperson of the Bangladesh-Trkiye Parliamentary Friendship Group, paid a courtesy call on him at the foreign ministry in Dhaka on Monday, according to a press release.
The Adviser welcomed the delegation and praised Turkiye for its ongoing cooperation in meeting the humanitarian needs of the displaced Rohingya population.
The delegation had already visited the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar on November 1-2 to assess Turkish humanitarian efforts there.
Hossain also advocated for increased chances for Bangladeshi students in Turkish colleges and asked Turkey to hire more trained and semi-skilled professionals from Bangladesh.
The Adviser stated that the government has approved the building of a Yunus Emre Institute branch in Bangladesh, with the expectation that it will promote people-to-people ties.
Mehmet Akif Yilmaz praised Bangladesh's handling of the Rohingya situation, describing it as a brotherly nation.
He reassured the Turkish Parliament of its sustained sympathy and collaboration with Bangladesh in all areas of mutual interest.
Ramis Sen, Turkey's ambassador to Bangladesh, also attended the meeting.
