On Tuesday afternoon, two individuals were killed in a road accident in front of the Deohata overbridge in the Mirzapur upazila of the district.
The victims were identified as Rahij Sikder, 46, son of Azim Uddin of Ranashal village in Gorai union, and Abdul Hamid, 60, son of Azgar Ali of Deohata village in Mirzapur upazila.
The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Tangail highway when a Tangail-bound bus collided with an autorickshaw, critically injuring the driver and passenger. They were brought to Kumudini Hospital, where physicians pronounced them dead.
Sohel Sarwar, Officer-in-Charge of Mirzapur Gorai Highway Police Station, stated that when the autorickshaw driver attempted to enter the overbridge from the opposite lane, it collided with the speeding bus.
He stated that the bodies would be handed over to their relatives once all legal processes were completed.
