Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 4,000 kilograms of jatka (hilsa fry) during a special drive in Bhaberchar and Baushia areas under Gazaria upazila of the district Tuesday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Gazaria Coast Guard conducted the operation at midnight and recovered the jatka after searching a truck and two passenger buses, said Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq on Wednesday afternoon.
The seized fish, worth around Taka 28 lakh, was later distributed among local madrasahs, poor and destitute people.
