Dhaka University (DU), North South University (NSU), and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have been ranked as the top three universities in Bangladesh in the latest QS Asia University Rankings 2025.

According to the UK-based higher education analytics firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), DU has been placed 112th in Asia, while NSU and BUET ranked 155th and 158th, respectively. All three institutions are among the top 200 universities in Asia this year.

A total of 29 Bangladeshi universities made it to the list. Among them, BRAC University ranked 253rd, Daffodil International University 280th, Jahangirnagar University 292nd, Rajshahi University 320th, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology 342nd, and Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology 357th.

Dhaka University has maintained its position as the country’s top-ranked institution for another year. It is now 17th in South Asia and 584th globally in the overall QS World University Rankings.

The university has also moved up in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, entering the world’s top 1,000 universities after advancing 200 places. In addition, 35 DU academics and researchers have been listed among the World’s Top 2per cent Scientists 2025 — the highest number from any Bangladeshi university.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan praised the achievement, crediting it to a dedicated 16-member ranking improvement committee led by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed. The committee has introduced measures to strengthen research, improve academic quality and expand international collaboration.

Meanwhile, North South University has climbed to 149th place in Asia in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, moving up from 155th last year. NSU remains the top private university and second overall in Bangladesh.

This year’s QS Asia Rankings assessed a record 1,526 universities across 25 Asian countries, with 46 from Bangladesh included. NSU also ranked 18th in Southern Asia, just behind Dhaka University (17th), marking its best regional performance to date.
