The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has removed a total of 1.25 lakh illegal banners and festoons across the city in the past one month.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz disclosed the information on Thursday after attending a divisional review meeting on the "Banner and Festoons Removal Programme" held at Nagar Bhaban in Dhaka.

"We have removed around 1.25 lakh banners and festoons over the past month. I urge everyone not to deface the city with banners and festoons anymore. It is a very labourious task for our city workers," the DNCC administrator said.

During the meeting, detailed statistics of the removal activities conducted in 52 wards under DNCC's 10 regional offices were presented.

According to the report, Region-3 saw the highest removal with 29,441 banners and festoons cleared, followed by around 25,000 from Region-2, 18,000 from Region-4, 12,000 from Region-5 and about 11,000 from Region-9.

Last month, DNCC designated around 30 spots across the city where posters can be put up free of charge.

Following that, the corporation launched a coordinated drive to remove all illegally installed banners, posters and festoons.

The month-long campaign was carried out across all 52 wards under DNCC's 10 regional offices.

DNCC authorities said the city cleanliness drive will continue to keep Dhaka neat and orderly.
