German Member of Parliament (MP) of the Green Party has visited Bangladesh to discuss the current situation in the country, including preparations for the upcoming national elections, and to explore areas of bilateral cooperation.

During his visit from October 26 to 29, the German lawmaker met key stakeholders to exchange views on Bangladesh’s political developments, economic progress, and energy initiatives, particularly the potential for renewable energy in the region, said a press release issued by the German Embassy here today.

He also examined the regional implications of the conflict in Myanmar, aiming to draw international attention to the ongoing humanitarian situation.

Following his Bangladesh visit, Mr Mijatovic traveled to Chiang Mai, Thailand, for further consultations on the issue.

The MP held discussions with Labour Adviser M Sakhawat Hussain on global supply chains, labour migration, and working conditions, including challenges in the shipbreaking industry.

Mijatovic also visited Bangladesh’s textile sector through a programme organised by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), where he met civil society representatives and students from BRAC University to discuss workplace standards and social compliance.

Later, he travelled to Cox’s Bazar, where he visited Rohingya camps to assess humanitarian operations and engage with relevant partners working on refugee welfare and host community support.

The visit reflects Germany’s continued interest in fostering dialogue and cooperation with Bangladesh on human rights, working conditions, humanitarian aid, and sustainable development.
