Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) detained three activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) following a procession in Muradpur area under Panchlaish Thana early Sunday.

Officer-in-Charge of Panchlaish Police Station Mohammad Solaiman confirmed the matter.

Locals said that around 20 to 25 activists of Chattogram (North) District Chhatra League brought out a procession at around 6:45am, which lasted for seven to ten minutes.

The OC said that the detained individuals were members of the banned BCL. Efforts are underway to apprehend others who participated in the procession.

Upon receiving the information, a team from Panchlaish Police arrived at the spot and chased the suspects. Three individuals were caught during the incident, while the others managed to escape.

The arrested BCL activists are Anwarul Haque Ishan (17), son of Azizul Haque Babul from Panchlaish area; Rajan Das (19), son of Pradeep Chandra Das; and Saikat Chandra Bhowmik (19), son of Priyo Lal Chandra Bhowmik.

The OC of Panchlaish Police Station said, "Three individuals were caught red-handed during the procession… Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects."

The interim government had banned the BCL on 23 October last year following demands from the student movement against discrimination.
