Primary and Mass Education Adviser Prof Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder on Sunday said the Pabna Mental Hospital would be converted into an international standard modern psychiatric institute for the development of mental health in the country.
"Developed communication system and an international standard new mental hospital to be built in Pabna by utilising the infrastructure of Pabna Mental Hospital," he said while addressing an award-giving ceremony and reception organised by the Bangladesh Association of Psychiatrists (BAP) at a hotel in the capital.
The expansion of psychiatric education, research and its services has been insufficient at the National Institute of Mental Health, Dhaka for a long time due to the shortage of accommodation, he said.
The adviser said that committed researchers in the psychiatry sector should be awarded so that they can contribute fully to the sector in the future.
Expressing his gratitude to the psychiatrists, Dr Bidhan urged them all to work together with professionalism and devotion.
Among others, Prof Dr Hedayetul Islam, Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim, Prof Dr Abdul Wahab Mina and Dr Rawshan Ara Begum addressed the function.
